Sticking to the Beat: Life Behind the Drumkit #1

Entry 1 – 22nd October 2023

We’ve just been for a gig in Amsterdam.

Ferry was fun, the bingo announcer had the enthusiasm of a funeral director. Everyone had troubles with the swaying, but I preferred it. Joint on the top deck was wavey to say the least.

We visited some of the establishments, mainly window shopping and coffeeshops. El Santo turned into a pipe smoker, very fitting of a gentleman that rejects modernity. We met The Doctor, Nikos (Galeras) and an absolute weirdo called Brother Billo.

The prior two are legends and good friends of the band. It’s worth noting that Louie (the Doctor) did some gigs with us, and Nikos has known to travel far and wide to see us play. Brother Billo on the other hand was a very strange malaka. He chatted shite mostly including: “The devil is black, blue is for boys, and you’re sexist”. He was obviously running out of ideas, but the disrespect about United was a disgrace. He then decided to “tune” my snare for the first time ever, by completely fucking it up. Don’t forget though, “you can hear the thump eh?”. He told the engineer who’s probably done about 200 gigs at that venue how to do the levels as well. This guy really is the Jack of all trades, and masterbator of none eh?

Anyway the gig went well. Jordan had come all the way from Manchester and somehow got so stoned he missed the gig. Needs to go back to writing school or buy himself an alarm. What a muppet.

We evaded a parking fine and had some good laughs and bafos. Now for the album.

Until next time,

Veganski.
